Suggestion for Change - worried about leaving my organization which I have been with many years

srakesh1990
Hello, I have completed my Bachelor of Commerce in Chennai, India. I joined a BPO as a TSR in July 2011. After spending 4 years with the company, I am considering transitioning to a different organization. Throughout my tenure, I have worked on various projects and made outbound calls. Currently, my company has 40 agents, and I am looking to move to a larger organization.

In 2014, I was offered a dedicated campaign and appointed as the Project Manager for the quality control division. I have been managing 21 agents under me since May 6, 2015.

My reasons for seeking a change include salary, the number of employees, exposure, and testing my capabilities. I am uncertain and anxious about leaving an organization I have been with for many years. Additionally, the low salary is not meeting my basic needs.

I would appreciate any suggestions you may have on this matter. Thank you for your help.

Dear Rakesh,

You have completed four years. Therefore, it is recommended to wait for a few more months, complete five years of continuous service, and become eligible for the gratuity. Nevertheless, if you get a job with very high remuneration, then you may forego the gratuity and grab the offer.

To get a fresh offer, what you need to do is make a career plan. You may create a career plan considering the following points:

a) Your age, qualifications, etc.

b) Unique competencies that you have developed in the last four years.

c) Secondary competencies that you have developed in the last four years.

d) Your likes and dislikes.

e) Family responsibilities, whether relocation is possible, and if any close relatives require your personal attention.

f) What avenues are available for you to utilize your unique competencies.

g) What avenues are available for you to utilize your secondary competencies.

h) Is it possible to venture into a new industry altogether? If yes, what avenues are available?

Once you have answered these questions, you may need to determine if you need to add any qualifications. Your current qualifications may be insufficient for a higher-level position. Additionally, if you plan to remain in the BPO industry, you should consider staying relevant even after the age of 35. Generally, the BPO industry thrives on young employees, and individuals over 35 may not be retained. Their job uniqueness may make them unsuitable for other industries. After years of a sedentary job, they may struggle with field assignments, potentially leading to career derailment for some individuals.

Hi Rakesh,

As suggested by Mr. Dinesh, wait for another year, but before that kindly recheck whether gratuity is there or not.

With regards, M.V. Kumar, Dy. Manager-HR.
