Strategies to Enhance English Communication Skills for Professional Growth

manmitha
Hi, recently I finished my graduation and joined for a job (1 month). I am finding it difficult to adjust to this environment. The major problem is communication because I come from a very remote place where the education is not as good as in the city. I am finding it difficult while communicating with my boss; I make a lot of grammatical mistakes while talking to him. I need to improve a lot. Please guide me in this regard.

Now, I want to send an email to the vendor requesting a quotation for the required items. How should I write the email for this matter? Please help me out.

Hi Dear,
First of all, develop your “can do it” attitude.
Manmitha, I can understand your situation. But this is not a very big problem.
• You can join some good English spoken class.
• Read English novel (You can start from easy one)
• Start reading English newspaper
• Start watching English news.
• Try to use little English sentences in your daily conversation
• Try to improve your vocabulary
• Use dictionary very frequently
• And the most important thing, don’t loose your patient. Be confident.
Best of Luck,
Meha

Hi Manmitha,

You can do the following things to improve your language:

1) Read English novels.
2) Start reading English newspapers.
3) Try to write articles from the newspaper on your own and identify your mistakes.
4) Also, please refer to www.answers.com if you don't understand the meaning of any words.
5) Watch English movies or news.
6) Use the English language whenever you talk with your friends and close ones.
7) Try to read the dictionary regularly. I know it may seem boring, but believe me, every time you open the English dictionary, you will feel satisfied, and you will start remembering the meanings of words automatically, which will, in turn, improve your English.

Believe me, I have helped many people in improving their English, and it really works.

Ankit

To start with, learn something new every day, like the spelling of HYDERABAD, which is misspelled in your profile.

Same is here but for the last 6 years, I have also learned a lot. You must learn all these things; "must" means something that is mandatory.

Hi,

Firstly, it's not such a major problem. Nobody's perfect, and we all learn each day.

* Develop a positive attitude that you can and you will...
* Try reading (aloud), it helps.
* Try conversing at all times in English; don't feel shy and uncomfortable even if you go wrong.
* Try joining a spoken English class. You can email your query to shohrat@search4excellence.com.

I'm sure you'll see the difference in yourself in no time.

All the Best!

Hello there...

As I understand, you are hesitant to converse as you think you have weak communication skills. But realizing that you are weak in something is the first step taken, so good.

Another thing is, don't wait for the day you achieve perfection to start speaking. Small kids learn to walk by falling many times, so don't feel embarrassed to make mistakes.

Learn five new English words daily from newspapers. Newspapers are useful because they introduce new words that are commonly used in daily language.

Call customer care from your mobile and talk. Firstly, the call is free. Secondly, the representatives cannot see you, so there is no need to feel embarrassed about making mistakes.

Take care and enjoy.

Hi Meha,

The tips mentioned for improvement in English are really appreciable. I would like to add to those, i.e., READ ENGLISH NEWSPAPER ALOUD DAILY. Because this is de-stressing as well as trains the tongue in the English language. Secondly, watch NDTV and BBC News Channel daily. This would help in learning good English and comprehension.

Hi Meha,

It is quite surprising to me that on Saturday there is an HR Meet. Nobody invited me to this event. The organizers should have sent an invitation to all HR professionals on this site. Even if the invitation was limited to a few, it could have been shared on this platform. They may have had their reasons for not doing so. Did you receive an invitation? I am a self-respecting person and do not attend events without a formal invitation. I believe in giving a presentation on such occasions, as it signifies true and meaningful participation. This is not merely a "picnic" for entertainment; we may gauge the seriousness of the attendees at this HR Meet.

I appreciate you informing me about the event; otherwise, I would not have known about it. Could you clarify which Saturday this event is scheduled for? Is it on the 27th of October 2007? Are you one of the organizers?

Regards,

Yours sincerely,

Talk to yourself in English whenever you are alone. Don't hesitate to talk in English when you interact with others. You may make mistakes initially, but that's how you learn. That's how I learned.

Hi Satish,
It’s not like that.
I got to know only through citeHR. Posting was there. I haven’t received any personal formal invitation. It is very difficult to invite each & every one personally. In fact we are very thankful to Sanjukta & Sandeep who has taken initiative for organizing this meet. This Meet is open for all HR people. So you are most welcome. Motive of this meet is to share knowledge. We use to discuss HR related problems & issues. Next meeting is on 4th Nov. 07. You can join us in that meet. For further information you can talk to Sandeep Sharma 9818218317.
Hope to see you there.
Take care

Hi,

To be good in communication skills, the first and foremost thing is that you should be strong in basics. First, try to use simple words to communicate; these basic English fundamentals will automatically follow. Keep it as a mandatory rule that you must spend at least half an hour reading a day. Start communicating in English. Reading newspapers and listening to English news will help anyone speak English fluently.

Thank you,
