Increment Issue With Old Employees

Greetings all,

Currently, I am working with an engineering college since 2003 as a non-teaching faculty. In August, increments are given to people who are closer to the Principal and Head of the Department. However, no criteria are defined for this. Is there any law to stop such malpractice? Not a single appreciation letter is given to the people who receive such increments from the Admin office.

They are using different laws for teaching and non-teaching faculty, such as UGC, Pune University Act, and Maharashtra State Act.

There is no law for increments and appraisal systems; it totally depends on the management as well as the work performance of the employee. So legally, you can't fight for the increment, but you can fight for the wages to be defined as per their profiles in the Minimum Wages Act as per the states.

Just out of curiosity, if there are no criteria and no appreciation letter given, how do you know who has got the increment and who is close to the HOD and Principal.

It would be a policy of the college to give increments to some in August and others in some other month. First, check the policy of the college. Also, if you feel that someone who is profile-wise equivalent to you is having a higher salary, speak with the management and get the issue sorted. There is no law as to how the increment should be given.

It happens only in INDIA... No rules, No ethics, No equality, No minimum wages, No job security in Indian private industries, and as in private educational institutions. No one can change this scenario. People have to adjust or QUIT.
