Yes, I think a 5-day work culture is here to stay and will grow as more MNCs set up shops in India. Even typical Indian companies are also moving towards a 5-day work rule for management staff cadre. However, for factory/production-based staff, it remains mostly 6 days even now.

Apart from benefits like a better work-life balance, it helps to curb the carbon footprint as well by reducing energy consumption at offices and savings on transportation.

In fact, many candidates are very particular about 5 days working; otherwise, they don't even consider a good offer.

For a better work-life balance, a 5-day workweek is the best option. Slowly, Indian companies are also understanding this, which is a good sign.

Yes. Most of the MNCs already have a 5-day/week culture, but Indian companies are still working on a 6 days/5.5 days model where they make Saturday a half day. However, it depends on the industry you are in. For example, in IT companies, it is 5 days only, but in most of the manufacturing segment, it is 6 days.

5-day week works better than a 6-day week. More gets done, and employees feel stress-free. Of course, for certain activities like front offices, customer support, or some government offices where the need to keep doors open for as long as possible exists, the situation may be different.

As a (relatively) young person working in the corporate world, I side with the 5-day working week. Especially in a city like Mumbai, where one spends considerable time traveling, the workdays tend to get longer, leaving one with very little or no time for personal space during the weekdays. Also, we don't have the American/European culture of strict adherence to work hours, and they often get stretched much longer.

Weekends, having 2 days, can be used to rest and unwind, relax, socialize, and give time to yourself. On a lighter note, these 2 days sometimes seem short, but one can manage. I am assuming a 2-day weekend becomes helpful to married women, mothers, or even working couples to catch up with each other, with family, children, and connect.

This is a one-sided comment, and I haven't considered effects on productivity, and so on. The comment is purely from an employee's perspective.
