You are very true Sir, I have heard lots of comment flying around regarding HR and HR department from Employees. The other group who are widely teased are the sales personals.
People think that HR’s don’t have work in office and they are always free.
My observation and opinion:
As humans I feel we are all, always having needs. The more they get, more and more they want and the expectations get going higher.
Coming to the point: HR is mostly found interacting with employee’s , external vendors, on phones calling candidates or talking to employees who are on leave etc.., they have a wide range of work which cannot be listed down on a time sheet and cannot be quantified as work when it comes to reporting of work. Whereas when an engineer or a developer does a work it is quantifiable and can be easily converted to work done as the results are mostly immediate. The HR work and work content cannot be measured immediately but The Organization culture, The discipline, Number of employees who have spent more than 5 years in the same organization, Employee retention rate are all the efficient effectiveness of HR and the HR department within the Organization.
Many a times HR’s fail to communicate efficiently that they are the real reason behind bringing the right policy or the right decisions through the Management. My times HR play timid roles and project that The Decision was made by the Management and they prefer playing safe. These truly back fires when the Management fails to appreciate or highlight the efforts made by the HR department in coming up with the major decisions.
Hence employees look at the management as the providers and the try to reach the provider through the mediator called HR, once when they receive what they want from the provider they ignore and no longer want the mediator until when next similar situation comes.
Management makes the mistake of not honoring the HR team and department effectively. In organizations where the Management gives more honor to the HR department their employees also respect and honor the HR department.
HR personals need a lot of right grooming they need to carry themselves as respectable professionals and practice what they preach. Punctuality is the key here, which many of us fail to follow. HR personals must always remember that they are also employees but with special responsibilities hence the way they carry them within and outside the organization matters a lot to employees and the management.
