Navigating the HR Job Market: Tips for Fresher Career Start in HR

NeethuuM
Dear seniors,

I'm an MBA fresher from Anna University, a regular batch graduate who has cleared all my papers and is just waiting to receive my course completion certificate. I'm quite desperate as I can't find jobs in HR, except in some job consultancies. I have widened my job search, but EXPERIENCE is all that blocks my way. How do I gain experience without getting a chance? I haven't had the opportunity to attend campus placements as well. Where on earth would I find an opening... PLEASE BE KIND TO ADVISE...

Thank you.

Ms. Neethu,

There is a well-known fear of not getting a job that every fresher, especially an MBA fresher, has nowadays. But you really do not need to fear, as the HR domain is a rapidly growing field.

I would suggest working on the following points:
- Try to be specific when searching for a job in the HR domain. Decide whether you want to focus on recruitment, performance management, employee relations, training, etc. This approach will help you analyze your strengths and weaknesses better.
- Register yourself on various job portals and update your CV daily. Updating your CV daily demonstrates your proactive attitude towards job hunting.
- Stay updated on current job openings in your domain.
- Keep trying, and you will succeed shortly.

As our world is going through an economic crisis, people, especially freshers, will find a bit of challenge in getting a job. However, it will be good to build your own network and try to get a job within any available domain of HR, including Recruitment Consultancies.

All the best.

I am getting a job in consultancy, but I am not interested in that. I need guidance to work in the HR field. Please tell me what I should do.

From my past experience, I would suggest that it is best to approach a job consultancy for getting a job. You should go to Justdial and get a list of top placement consultancies in your area. After this, you can contact them and send them your resume. There are some consultancies that charge from candidates also, but I think it's fine to pay them some amount (usually 50% of your salary) if you think that the consultancy is genuine and the company in which they are placing you is good. These consultancies guarantee you a job, and you have to pay them only after you get your offer letter, so I don't think there is any harm in approaching them.

After my graduation, I had put my CV on almost every job site but was approached only by BPOs and consultancies. After that, I approached a placement consultancy and finally got a decent job.

Regards,
Aakriti
