Competency Mapping Method.

Dear All,
I am conducting my internship at a Technical University. I am working on mapping competencies with in this University and also need to compare the compentecies with three other Universities. I am required to focus on the education and the research work of the departments.
Could you please suggest which type of competency model would be suitable for this type of study?
