Firing Employees Leading To Demotivation. Seeking Help.

boond
Greetings.

I have joined my current company in October 2011 in Operations field. Although its a big group in Northeren India supporting some 2500 employees;while the current financial condition of the company is not good somehow. Which is quite normal in any business scenario.

But what making me worried is the way they are firing the employees. This company is being run by the Owner of the company; hence there is no way to raise any questions on his self made policies. I am surprised with HR department; CMD is calling them 5 minutes before the closing hours to prepare the full and final and they are preparing it without empathising with the employees or asking any reasons who have given their time, honesty and loyality to organisation. They are not even giving any notice/salary. Leading to frustarion and demotivation.

The higher designation such as DGM Admin and Junior Executive / new / old everybody is being fired in the same manner. This has made me really worried as I am new and joined this company while denying good offer from other organisation.

Question is why HRD is not taking any action and if Lay off is important then it should be done in a dignified manner. Everybody is concerned to save its profile.

Please help me as I am feeling very low while coming to office on daily basis and all my enthusiasm is gone to perform.

Warm Regadrs

Sub-Firing employees

I understand that you have objection to the manner in which employees are being fired by your company. Yes, an employee who has served a comapny sincerely and with commitment, is entitled to be treated with all the respect he deserves. That's how some professionally managed companies have well defined severance policies. They call the employees, explain the reasons for taking the extreme step of parting with them, express recognition of their services and thank them for their services to the comapny and in many cases, suggest ways of relocating themselves and even help them with alternate placement in deserving cases.

The HR plays a vital role in keeping such traditions in place in a company.Instead of firing employees which may affect their profile, they should have allowed some reasonable time to the employees to relocate themselves and allow them to resign thereafter. Thus the severence is dignified. You can suggest this to your HR or present it to them through your representative body, if you have any.

Thanks for the reply.
But what I am concerned for is HRD is not at all understanding. All are saving their skins. Since I had joined a few days ago, they are not listening to me. I am ready to talk to CMD but as per thepolicy only President's and V.P's are allowed to see him.
I tried to talk to my boss, though he felt bad for the decisions taken but told that he is not in a position to say or do any thing.
I am very much demotivated and have decided to quit on ethical basis. But practically I have just changed my job and I need to be secure financially and moreover its a small place where there are only handful of opportunities.I am in dilemma whether I should tell myself by sending a mail to CMD and all (to the common id of organisation.) . Result I know I will be thrown out at that very moment, should I wait for some opportunity and till then continue to bear this self made pressure of injustice which is affecting me in my day to day work.

Dear Boond,
I sympathise with you; however when the company is owner run, and is in financial difficulties, and you have no worker representation, these things happen. You are right everyone thinks of himself/herself and job security. Hence, no one will tell the owner that things need to be handled in a different way. Normally, more experinced the people more their pay will be and, hence, first to be removed. I have seen this happen in companies and universities in the UK, where they have been offered voluntary severance.
So, if you keep your cool, you may still keep your job. Look for a good opportunity to get to the MD. However, if you want to lose the job to get a good night sleep go ahead and publicise it or get to the MD.
Have a nice day.

Dear Simhan Sir,

Thanks for your valuable reply. I have always benefitted myself with your posts which are enriched with knowledge and experience.

Taking an advantage of this platform, I would like to resolve one more query.

I am an M.B.A in HR and have got an experience of 3.6 yrs. Out of which for 2 years I have worked as Generalist HR and then relocated to Bangalore and worked as an Executive Assistant to Director Operations. Because of some unavoidable circumstances I had to come back to Chandigarh. Here also I joined as Executive Assistant -President as I had to be in job to support myself.

I always wanted to be in to HR domain but joined Executive Assistant's profile for two reasons, First to gain the experience of Operations domain and second to establish my base in the new metropolitan city all alone.

As for now I have spoiled my C.V and the opportunities which I am getting are for E.A's profile only and not for HR .I got an opportunity also but was rejected stating that I have changed so may jobs and there is possibility that I will switch my job again. Also considering my age they are putting factor that I will get married and leave the job.

I have tried each and everything but I am not able to convince them. And now I am not getting any interview calls even.

I am very much confused and becoming more and more desperate , as the situations on the work front are also not up to the mark.

I really need your guidance with this regards.
