MBA-HR - Should I Make My Career In Technical Field Or In HR ?

Hi everyone.

I am a female with an MBA in HR and an engineering background. In many of my interviews, the panel has told me that I am spoiling my career in HR. They suggested that I should utilize my MBA for future prospects but work in the engineering field only. They believe my rapid growth will be in the technical field, and having an MBA degree will serve as an add-on in the future. I have been working as an HR executive for the past 9 months, but I am very confused. It is challenging for me to make a decision at this time. I seek advice from senior professionals. What should I do?

Currently, I am on the verge of an opportunity in the manufacturing industry, and it is also a multinational corporation (MNC). Should I continue with HR or return to a technical role? Please reply as soon as possible.

Follow your heart if you want to be happy. You need to decide what is important for you in life. I started off as an electrical engineer. I thought I should work in engineering. Eventually, I pursued studies in management in my middle years and ended up teaching. Sometimes I feel I should have moved to teaching years ago and not in my late 40s.

You should have been clear when you opted for an MBA, yet you are still unclear in your vision and goals. First, decide what you want to achieve and move towards that. Another thing, if you are really good in technical aspects, consider leveraging your MBA as it will provide an added advantage, enhancing your skills in the supervisory cadre and propelling you to new heights.

Now, it's left to your perception.

Exactly at times, we are unable to figure out what we want in life, what we want to head for, and we feel directionless. And believe me, this will happen every now and then. One step you take in your career, another step you move forward, you will feel unstable regarding your decision. So do not worry; it's nothing like that. As stated by other members, talk to yourself, try to identify your skills and interests, observe yourself for your passion. Do you want to be in the technical line or HR line?

And yes, sometimes sooner or later, whenever we are striving to find our passion, we end up with one, and it is a general psychology shared by most people. So just try to focus on your choices, and you will land up with a decision. If not now, at a later stage in life, you may land up with your interest.
