Yes Ashish,
We have limitation on the maximum hours for OT, it varies from state to state... hence just check in google for your state you will get it...

Dear Mr.Ashish,
In our state total working hour including OT will be not more than 60 hours in a week.
Kindly check with your state regulation.

Dear Member,
Welcome to CiteHR.
First we have to decide under which of the law we are allowed to have OT work from workers/employees e.g. State Shops & Establishment Act, Factories Act, 1948, The Minimum Wages Act, 1948 etc. & then go through the provisions relating to limitation of working on OT.

The federal rule requires payment at 1.5 times the regular pay rate for hours in excess of 40 per week. The law does not require OT for any particular days of the week or any particualr shifts. Employers are free to set OT rules and are really limted more by local convention, good managament practices, and concern for the health of their workers.
Double time and so forth are also at the discretion of the employer - no laws say you must pay 2 x for holidays or weekends.
Compnesatory time off is not a good idea in many states as they say you pay the actual rates due for OT... in some states you can go with Comp Time by law but not for non-exempt workers again as the rule... pay for their time it is safer, more attractive, and always a legal action everywhere.
Children under age 18 have limitations.

Dear Mr. Ganguly,
The rate for OT in West Bengal is double the normal rate.
I am not aware of any Federal Law saying 1.5times. Hence pl check with your labour Advisor before implementation.

Hi,
Factory Act 1948 is applicable to every state regarding OT. No excessive working.
OT hours should not exceed more than 60 hrs. in week, including normal working hours.
OT hours should not exceed 50 hrs. in a Quarter.
This is what law says.
Best regards,
