Can you explain to me the basic difference between a CV and a resume?

Dear Friend,

C.V means Curriculum Vitae, so both are similar. The word "C.V" is more current, whereas "resume" is the older term.

Hi! CV gives a wider picture of the candidate, including experience and other activities, whereas a shorter version is a resume or biodata.

Resume contents:
1. Name
2. Father's/Husband's Name
3. Date of Birth/Age
4. Residential Address
5. Qualifications
6. Experience, etc.

A CV is an expanded version that includes:
1. Brief Note on Experience (nature of jobs handled and achievements)
2. Academic Activities like attending Seminars and presenting papers.
3. Brief note on Academic activities and Educational qualifications.
4. Personal skills
5. Membership of professional and other bodies
6. Hobbies and other extracurricular activities, etc.

I'd just like to add to what Kumar has explained:

A CV is a chronological account of your career starting with your first degree to your current experience. On the other hand, a resume starts with your most recent experience and goes on to the past. For example, if you did your education between 1998 - 2003 and worked since 2003 till date, your CV will look like - 1998 - 2000, 2000 - 2001, 2001 - 2003, 2003 - 2005, and 2005 - till date, whereas your resume will look like - 2005 - till date, 2003 - 2005, 2001 - 2003, 2000 - 2001, and 1998 - 2000.
