Counselling - company wants to start night shifts - majority of people working here are married females

nisha_grsl
Can someone help me with counseling? I want the general questions to be asked. Secondly, my company wants to start night shifts. How do we go about informing the employees about the same, considering the majority of people working here are married females from a conservative background?

Please help.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Nisha,

What kind of counseling questions are you looking for? Is it career counseling/employee counseling or counseling for this new change of work hours? We'll try to find some resources regarding the night shift issue in some time and let you know if we find anything. Or maybe some other member can share their experience or give some advice.

Hi all,

It is a combination of employee counseling, work hour change notification, grievances handling, etc. I am planning to cover it in 4-5 sessions. But if I could get a list of questions on what to speak about, it would be really great.

Hi Nisha,

After reading through your queries, I thought I would suggest you seek professional help from counselors. We have professionally trained and acclaimed psychologists on board at Ma FOI who may be of assistance.

Hi Nisha,

This is definitely a concern to be addressed with utmost care, balance of cultural values, and the need of the business at this hour. This is the time wherein the management has to move closer to the employees, share with them the business opportunities they have at hand, explain how renowned the clients are that gave you the project, and the outcome of the deliverables, the tangible and intangible benefits the employees will be drawing from the business, the care that the company has taken to face the change, and the comfort/facilities the company would be providing to the employees, etc.

A series of interactions/meetings (team and individual) would be helpful in creating an environment among the employee community to empathize with the need of the company and the necessity for them to extend their services during the night shifts. Of course, I do understand there will be some apprehensions before the employees decide on the shift.

But an open management, continuous interactions, meetings, sharing the information with them, and the few criticalities of business will definitely sow the seed that would make the employees ACCEPT THE CHANGE. Of course, the emphasis can be continued with a series of counseling sessions.
