Termination Of A Newly Joined Employee

Hi,
One of my relative is working as a manager in an organisation . At the appointment he was issued with an appointment letter saying that you will be on probation for 6 months and notice period at the leavining is 2 months.
Today He has almost completed 8 months, till date his services are not confirmed on paper . He has reminded the management about this but, Management is saying they will do it at the year end. Now he has an offer and wanted to leave the job .
Please advice on the following :
1. Is it complusory for him to serve 2 months notice period.
2. or Can he leave the job immediately.
