Hello sir,
I have a doubt related to Workmen's compensation. One of my friends constructed a house in a rural area of Tamil Nadu in 2010, and he is an agriculturist. With a lot of difficulty, the housework was completed. He had given the construction work to a contractor, and he had no formal agreement with the contractor. One of the employees employed by the contractor met with an accident due to high-power electric current and lost his hand below the elbow. Medical charges were taken care of by both my friend and the contractor. Unfortunately, it is of no use. Now, as per the Workmen's Compensation Welfare Commission, he has to pay 5.95 Lakhs and an interest of 12% from the date of the accident. So, the total amount to pay is 10L. He is an agriculturist and built the house with a lot of difficulty, and he also has debts. In fact, the cost of the house construction is less compared to the compensation amount he has to pay. He spent only 6L on the house. Please advise on the procedure. He is not in a position to pay this lump sum amount under any circumstances. Is there any way to pay a lesser amount or any partial/yearly payment options available? Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Seethalakshmi P
