Dear Suganya, I agree with what Mr. Ravishank has said. About being a woman, I just want to ask why do you feel that you, being a girl/woman, cannot handle? Women are the BEST MANAGERS. Let's take an example of a MOTHER's life. Think about how she manages her married life, her husband, her kids, her relatives, and finally the house. She does all these and tries to make everyone happy in the family. It is difficult but not IMPOSSIBLE. I am a girl, and I think that I can... Be positive, Suganya. My Mom gave me a mantra - never say IMPOSSIBLE because the word itself says I'M POSSIBLE. :) Suganya, try to accept the challenge and just do your part; the rest, God will take care of. We women can do anything and everything! Giving an excuse that we are girls/women... nah. When we decide to enter this corporate world, we should be prepared for it.

Sure, we can beat all our struggles. Girls are rocking!

I think the key to improvement of interpersonal skills is to think from the other person's point of view. Try to guess what would be acceptable to that person. This may seem difficult, but it is not. Develop a habit of observation and forming opinions about a person or a group of people while you are in public places. Try to guess what their professions would be. You may not be able to cross-check, but after some practice, you would be very accurate in guessing the best way to interact with the person. The key is observation and forming unbiased opinions, not based on your preferences.

With a kid, you have to be a kid; with an elderly person, the approach is different.

The following ways helped me to increase interpersonal and decision-making skills and I would like to share them with you:

- Conduct periodic presentations to employees on company policies. Practical interaction and communication during these presentations help improve skills and provide opportunities to continuously develop policies.

- Select HR topics, study, analyze, and present them to management or colleagues during departmental meetings. These activities have helped me boost my confidence level.

I too agree with Mr. Ravishank and Ms. Niya Sharma. In addition to this, I would like to tell you that while interacting with people to develop interpersonal relations, always try to understand a person's nature, habits, etc., and then interact with him/her, remembering all these factors. Also, try to judge and resolve others' problems after stepping into their shoes. That will enable you to resolve the problem properly and help you make correct decisions.

Regarding girls, as Niya said correctly, there is nothing that a girl cannot do. If you have seen "Chak De," there is a very powerful dialogue by Shahrukh Khan that goes, "If a girl can give birth to a man, then she can beat him anytime, anywhere, in any situation."

I partially agree with Niya's opinion. However, as a woman/gal, handling people personally and professionally should be approached differently. A professional woman should be diplomatic and not have an equivalent way to handle everybody. In this case, your interpersonal skills can help you out. Before handling people in the field, you need to recognize what sort of personality he/she has. As women are often emotional and reactive by nature, interpersonal study can provide you with the tools to handle and face people effectively.
