Dear Blizz,

What is your designation? Are you a teacher? The education institutions celebrate the Independence Day (ID) and teaching and non-teaching staff are expected to be present to make the celebration smooth.

Many state governments have not declared the "education sector" as industry. Therefore, provisions of Industrial Dispute Act do not apply. Therefore, a rule disbursement of triple salary for working on ID Day does not apply.

Nevertheless, one should not grumble for having required to attend ID functions. This is the day and probably the only day the freedom fighters are remembered. Every citizen is expected to show national fervour, expected to keep aside personal chores and take part in celebrations. The private sector enjoys the holiday but for flag-hoisting ceremony, they go to the workplace and take part in celebrations. But they do this without making noises under their breath.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar

If the school authorities are asking you to come for the flag hoisting, you may have to go and you cannot claim extra wages for that.

Dear Blizzz,

National Holidays in China (For your reference):

I. General Policy:

Company (School) recognized and observed holidays are those holidays officially designated by Government. Employees (Teachers) are given time-off with full pay on Company (School) - recognized holidays. Staff/Employees are given an alternate day off or overtime pay if important work requires attendance on the day of the holiday. If a holiday falls on a Sunday the following day is usually observed as a holiday. If a holiday falls on an employee's normal day off the employee is granted an alternate day off at the convenience of the Company (School).

II List of Holidays:

There are different from India.

III. Notice of National Holidays:

It is normal practice for the Company (School) to publish a notice preceding each holiday, to allow supervisors (teachers) to schedule the work in their group or arrange the overtime work on the holiday and provide all employees (key staff) confirmation about day-off.

Best regards,

Dear Blizzz,

Just to inform you that no school in India is open for classes on 15 of August right. Its only a flag hoisting occasion followed by may be few cultural programs or not. As an Indian we all should be proud in participating in a flag hoisting program on 15 of August.
