Dear Sirs,

I would like to know how we can control the chewing and spitting of gutka/tobacco within the plant premises. Currently, we impose fines on workers caught carrying, chewing, or spitting gutka/tobacco on the plant premises. Despite screening at the security entry gate and confiscating the materials, the problem persists. Are there any stricter measures we can implement to address and eradicate this menace?

Thank you.

Dear Sir,

Do you think prohibiting this will help you to have more productivity and lesser rejection? Why do you want to do this? I have observed that most of the workers do this because of addiction, and prohibiting the same will reduce productivity. Rather than why don't you make provision for spittoons?

If you come under the purview of the Factories Act, there are provisions for disciplinary action against such violations.

We are a food processing industry and have successfully implemented zero tolerance for all kinds of tobacco products in our factory premises.

For cleanliness and hygiene, it is a good idea to ban the consumption of Gutka and Tobacco products. Provision of spittoons is not a good idea. Firstly, they are very difficult to maintain and clean. Secondly, who will clean it?

Hi,

If you are checking at the gate and fining people for being found carrying it, why has the use and incidence not fallen? How are these getting into the factory then? You need to educate the workers and also train the supervisors to stop this practice. If possible, get the unions on your side. It's a long-term fight in every company.

Hi,

Checking at the gate, recovering items from individual possession, and forwarding names to the HR department for fines and disciplinary action have shown good results. Workers use various tricks to conceal these items as addiction forces them to do so. It takes a little more time to frisk them. However, the number of people bringing these items has considerably decreased since the checking drive started and intensified last month.

I am planning to raise awareness about the ill effects of consuming Gutka and tobacco items. Please provide a PowerPoint presentation if someone has one. Are there any NGOs that can help us educate workers on this subject?

Thank you.
