Hello Friends,

My name is Pragya, and I am from Chennai. First of all, let me tell you that you are really helpful, and this is a great platform. I would like to start a Spoken English and Communication Skill Training Center of my own. For this, I need to prepare a training module on Spoken English, Communication Skills, and Personality Development. Please help me develop an approach in designing this.

Kindly assist with some material for teachers' training in spoken English and communication skills with lots of fun, exercises, and group activity modules, which would be very interesting for them. I would appreciate your help.

Dear Pragya,

Congratulations on your decision to start your own business venture. The products that you've chosen certainly have the potential to be profitable.

A quick question for you: The space you are looking at entering is cluttered and very crowded. In fact, it's now a commoditized market where the distinct advantage remains with the first-movers who incidentally also have high-quality product offerings. Have you considered a franchising opportunity with an established market leader?

I realize that while franchising has inherent and significant risks, it also presents a viable model that reduces time-to-market, provides tested and ready-for-market products, and a network of peers, etc., if entered into with a reputable franchisor. Just a thought!

Take care and all the best!

Dear Pragya,

At the outset, I appreciate your decision to be self-employed. Here is some quick advice from my side:

1. As a trainer, you should develop your own unique training module, which should be the USP for your business.
2. Collaborate with like-minded people who excel in content development, and consider purchasing content from them.
3. It is better to customize the content rather than opting for a structured solution.
4. Develop modules that cater to individuals and ensure you establish a coaching cycle alongside the training.
5. Never get caught up in the rat race; while this market may be saturated, there is still room for companies that can deliver quality.

I hope this helps in your journey as a self-employed trainer.

Best regards,

Hi Pragya,

First, congratulations on opening your own venture. It's very brave and courageous of you, and we wish you all the very best!

With regard to the Communication Skill Training Module... since you haven't specified what kind of communication module - basic or advanced - nor have you mentioned the target audience or the learning styles you would like the module to be customized to, it would be helpful if additional information is provided for us to guide you appropriately.

With Best Regards,
BE

Hi Pragya,

Congratulations on your venture. I am a retired AGM from Indian Overseas Bank residing in Chennai. I also had a similar idea before my retirement itself. To firmly establish myself, I have taken a franchise of a Softskill training institute. We are currently in the process of training corporates and college students. My contact number is 9566038710. I can assist you in formulating some modules for soft skill training. You can reach me at 9566038710 or via email at rengang@satyam.net.in.

Hi Pragya,

Nice to hear this from you. Actually, I too have the same idea of starting classes for communication skills for the benefit of rural engineering students at a moderate fee. I have been working in a self-financed Engineering College for more than 4 years. Please share your ideas with me if you like my idea further so that I can develop this into action in the short term.

Thank you,

Hi, I'm Ellis Maven Nathan, a trainer par excellence, and mentoring for 34 years. Although I'm based in Hyderabad, I visit Chennai quite often. Since I am a native English speaker and have also taught in Australia and New Zealand, perhaps I may be of valuable assistance in helping you set up your own classes. I have loads of material that is used not only for spoken English training but also for Communication Skills, Soft Skills, and Etiquette. These days, I have my own classes running at my residence, and my students are aged between 6 and 60.

Should you be interested, please feel free to email me at ellis.dion@gmail.com. We could come to some agreement and start the ball rolling.

With warm regards,
Ellis Nathan

Dear Pragya,

Gaurav has brought out a quite pertinent point. This is in addition to what he has said.

Apart from the overcrowded market, I feel that you do not know how to devise the product as well. If you want to start an English Institute, then designing modules should be your core competency. Forget about selling your product; you are asking for help in the designing stage itself.

I recommend that you do a good amount of market research. Click the following link to read my reply to a similar query: https://www.citehr.com/260478-starti...ml#post1181231

Hi, fellows,

Greetings on Diwali!

I am a Spoken English & Personality Development Trainer and run LIFE (Language Institute For English). Currently, I have a contract with a D.Ed., B.Ed., and M.Ed. college and an industry to coach the students and executives, respectively. All is well, but of late, I have been seriously thinking of franchising and would appreciate your insights in this regard. With a vast amount of past experience, I believe it is time to venture and expand the business.

I would appreciate it if someone could guide me in this matter.

Thank you very much.

Hello Pragya,

As many have said, it is a cluttered market for Spoken English and Personality Development. I second the idea of going for a franchise. This will reduce your efforts in attracting students to your institute. You can also consider broadening your English offerings. For instance, you could create a specialized module for housewives. Additionally, you can develop a module for corporate employees focusing on skills such as drafting, letter writing, and presentation skills. You might also consider establishing an English Club at your premises for practice classes where both old and new students can come and practice with minimal supervision and guidance. This will help keep your institute busy, creating a better image. Think of some innovative methods to set yourself apart. Good luck!

Dear Pragya,

I understood what you want to do and I appreciate your interest. Since you are in Chennai, you must have come across many institutes.

I suggest the following:

a) You must know what to teach and how to teach as English is the same for everyone. After teaching, only the level of speaking may differ from person to person.

b) Instead of spending time framing the syllabus, get material from someone but don't go for a franchise network as it is costly.

c) You must know how to teach a Tamil medium student, English medium student, etc.

d) The best way to start is to have an individual coaching system at the beginning for some time. It has its advantages.

e) Have someone as a mentor to guide you for at least one year.

f) Start working for your monthly income in the beginning.

g) For any guidance, you can call me on 9364292705. I am in Erode, an ex-serviceman retired from the Indian Air Force, working in Indian Overseas Bank, and have been running a spoken English institute successfully for adults.
