Hi,

Can anyone help me out by giving some tips on how to make a workplace more lively and cheerful? I am working in an environment where people are loaded with tons of work, and there is hardly any networking among the employees. I would like you all to provide me with some tips on making the environment more cheerful here. I am looking for practical examples. Please help.

Regards,
Nisha

Dear Nisha,

It depends only on the management's vision and working style. Work pressure mounts when management is not organized or all decision-making of all departments depends on the reply of the management. This is because there is no decentralization.

Sometimes, management may try to save money by making one employee work all jobs instead of 2 or 3. Due to stress, the quality also suffers, and employees work frustrated.

Sometimes, the workload will be heavier if the jobs are done manually. Hence, computerization may also reduce their job pressure.

Ultimately, you can keep employees happy and foster networking when we give them some breathing time often.

Truly,
Wilfred

I tried competition and achieved quite a success. I attempted to involve them in activities that did not require much time but still provided them with a break. They felt engaged and entertained. I used the intranet to send them small games like puzzles or riddles to solve. The first correct entry would receive a Chai & Samosa. They began seeking each other's help to win turn-by-turn.

I named it 'morning workout for the brain,' and they eagerly awaited my emails first thing in the morning when they opened their mailbox. This may sound absurd, but it worked! My organization is now being viewed with envy by neighbors as a workplace full of fun and joy.

Dear Nisha,

You might have heard about the 5S program, a Japanese concept that is being taught and followed in most industries to create a clean environment and promote peaceful working conditions. There are many trainers available for this.

Sampath.
