Dear Arcana,
Minimum Wages Act, 1948 may also applies to Shops & Commercial Establishment if added in the list of schedule employments by the appropriate Government. As per section 2(g) of the M W Act, "Schedule Employment" means an employment specified in the schedule, or any process or branch of work forming part of such employment. Thus any employer who employs one or more employees in any schedule employment then he is liable to pay minimum wages as fixed/declared by the appropriate Govt. for that employment.

Hi Archana,
For IT industry Minimum wages is applicable as per Shops & Commercial Establishment Act. Even the Shops & Commercial Establishment Act has Minimum Wages act. Actually it varies from state to state. I more over it is quite marginal. I believe it should be around 3000Rs per month. You can refer to the books for your state Shops & Commercial Establishment Act book for the latest Minimum wages rates.

Hi Archana!
No. DA is not included in this. I believe you will get the hand book for Minimum wages in book shops for particular state. You can refer to that. Else you can even check on web. But I believe they would have posted for 2008 & would have not updated for current year.

Dear Friend,
Its simple, minimum wages differ from state to state. There is a Central Minimum wage also which is as per the gradation of your city. Minimum wages are never industry specific. You need to check this with State or central Gazette. And for latest in states, check with the labour Deptt. in your city.

Dear all
Hi
You can visit to your nearest Regional Commissioner of Labour office, and seek for minimum wages as on date for shops and establishments, they would immediately help you by giving proper information i.e. Basic wages and VDA Or DA Points and Rate per Point of raise in Index points. The minimum wages do include D.A or VDA what ever it is named. The minimum wage is Basic + D.A.
You will get good amount of help from labour officer for knowing the latest minimum wages that are applicable for payment or look for a latest gazette notice issue by your state government in regard to the latest index points for calculation of VDA or DA.
