Hi friends, I am pursuing an MBA and doing summer training at Aditya Birla Group. The organization has assigned me the topic "Contract Labour Regulation & Abolition 1971" for a project. I am facing difficulties with the analysis of this topic as it is not widely available on the internet; it's only about 10 or 12 pages consisting of rules and regulations. I believe a project should ideally be around 50 or 60 pages. Please help me with how to analyze this. I am confused. :(:(:(

Hi Bittu,
To add more to your project, you can reach out to your company's HR and obtain a list of Contract Labour and contractors engaged by them. Accordingly, visit their office for the whole process of contract labour. Definitely, you would find a lot of material. Also, check whether they are following all the statutory compliance mentioned in the Act, which they are bound to follow. Believe me, your project would look like a realistic project.
Regards,
Jatin.

Dear,
Contract Labor management is a huge area, and you need to explore the possibilities.
1) Visit various sites and gather information regarding the nature of the job done by contract laborers and regular employees, classify it.
2) List out various registers and records to be maintained under the Contract Labor (R&A) Act 1970.
3) You may study and analyze the landmark judgments on contract labor related to regulation and abolition such as the Supreme Court judgment in the case of Steel Authority of India v. National Union Water Front Workers and Ors (SAIL). By this judgment, the Supreme Court has overruled its earlier ruling in the Air India case and held that even if a contract labor system is abolished, the contract workers have no right to be absorbed as permanent employees.
4) Nowadays, outsourcing is a hot topic. You may also include the impact of contract labor on the economic policy of India.
I believe if you can add the mentioned points, your report will cover almost all aspects.

Atul

Thank you all for your valuable material on Contract Labour Management System. Actually, I am doing my project on analyzing the effectiveness of the Contract Labour Management System of a company. Can you all suggest how to effectively analyze other than considering the legal procedures (like whether the company is following the legal matters regarding this)? Or could I compare the regular workers with the contract workers? Please help! :-?:-?:-?
